During the past 30 years I've worked with professional athletes, college players, adults and kids of all ages. Nothing is more gratifying then to see those individuals achieve success, even if it's for a fleeting moment. With good work ethic and determination, tears and frustration become smiles and self confidence. I've always taught and preached that the practices belong to the coaches and the games belong to the kids. In keeping with that philosophy I train players hard, take them out of their comfort zone, tell them what they need to hear, expect them to work at their chosen skill and I hold them accountable for learning. When the games begin I tell them to have fun and trust themselves. Trust what they've learned and enjoy the best game on earth !!!
My experience has taught me that every person is different and I can make an impression on that individual in what I say, in what I teach and how I listen. I truly believe we can all achieve a dream, a goal, an objective or a milestone by believing in one simple phrase, "I can do all things in which God strengthens me." It's a powerful piece of scripture that I've come to live by and I'm staying in SHAPE as Pastor Rick Warren would say.
I hope everyone else stays in SHAPE as well by growing Spiritually, having a passionate Heart, using your Abilities and talents that you've been given, displaying your unique Personality and learning from your good and bad Experiences. In essence, become a steward of your life. I've recently begun to get in better SHAPE and I know it reflects on how and why I teach. It's my gift and I hope I can impart that gift on players, parents, coaches and everyone I come in contact with the rest of my life. See you on the Field !!!
